About
The Internet is covered with websites designed to provide you with backing tracks to your favourite songs, so that you can jam to any song by any band that you can think of. We didn’t want to be another one of those websites. Guitar Playback was created to help guitar players develop their musical ability by offering very high quality, custom-made backing tracks at an affordable price. Each track is written to help you master a specific musical concept suggested in its description.
Beginner backing tracks are all written using a single scale. This collection of tracks is perfect for guitarists who want to develop their musical vocabulary by learning new scales and patterns.
Intermediate backing tracks are written in two different keys. These backing tracks require the user to have a good knowledge of the keys involved, and whilst they are a bit more challenging than the beginner tracks, the modulations offer a very interesting educational value.
Advanced backing tracks contain at least three different keys. This section requires the user to have a good understanding of music theory as at least two modulations are involved. The content found here will force you to think about what you are playing, which is key to good improvisational skills.
Who we are
Guitar Playback is run by just two individuals, and as of June 2009, we showed our face on the Internet. Our aim is to build a collection of affordable backing tracks that help our fellow guitarists improve their technique, and over time develop a community of musicians from around the globe who are keen to not only progress their ability, but also share their progression with a community through audio and video recordings. In due course we hope to implement various tools and features that will be designed to further help you as a guitarist, and we would be more than happy to receive your thoughts and feedback on the website, to help us improve it overall.
David Wallimann – Guitar Playback founder, backing track composer
David has been teaching guitar professionally since the early 90s. His approach to applied music theory on the guitar has helped hundreds of students unlock their playing by understanding modal concepts using backing tracks as an educational tool. David graduated with honors from the CMA School of Music in Valenciennes, France where he studied advanced guitar and music production. When not teaching, Wallimann works with internationally acclaimed symphonic rock band Glass Hammer.
Dan Davies – Guitar Playback developer
Dan lives in the glorious land of England, and has been developing websites since he was 16. Now sitting at the age of 20, he spends his days in the digital age trying to put his fingers into as many pies as possible. If he’s not wielding a book on web development, he’ll be prancing around with his Squier Stratocaster, taking advice from David and working on his killer vibrato. He is ridiculously fond of progressive metal, always has something to say about anything, and is forever happy to support you with any problems you may be having.
